As a team, we want to ensure all those involved in the education of our Physiotherapy students receive ongoing support and training. Our in-house Practice Educator training days have been designed especially for you as Practice Educator. All courses will be delivered on our Bangor and Wrexham campuses. 

Who is this course suitable for? 

This course is for Physiotherapy Practice Educators who support 58³Ô¹Ï Students. 

Why study this course?

The focus of our Physiotherapy Practice Educators Training Days is dependent on need and will be tailored to suit our audience. 

For those new to Practice Educator or planning to take on a student after an extended hiatus, our ‘introductory course’ provides an ideal starting point. 
 
We also run ‘updates courses’ which cater for practice placement educators who haven't received an update in the past two years but have already completed the introductory course.

How long does this course take to complete?

• ½ day Refresher (in-person – Venue TBC) 09:00-13:00 Wednesday 30th September
• ½ Refresher (online) Weds 11th Nov 13:00-16:00
• Thursday 10th December (full day (in-person) course in Fron Heulog)

Tutors

Emily Rigby

Emily is a lecturer in Health Sciences at 58³Ô¹Ï. She has over 10 years of experience in direct Practice Educator whilst working in a local Health Board as a clinical specialist. Emily has worked in the University since 2021, leading and facilitating teaching and learning on the pre-registration Physiotherapy Postgraduate MSc / Diploma programme. She is the lead for clinical placements and is continually

working to improve clinical placement opportunities and experiences for students and Practice Educator alike.

Julie Owen

Lecturer in Healthcare Sciences (Physiotherapy)

Julie Owen joined 58³Ô¹Ï in 2022 as a Lecturer in Healthcare Sciences, following nearly two decades working within the Local Health Board in a range of roles, including Clinical Specialist and Team Leader. She now leads and supports teaching on the pre-registration MSc/Postgraduate Diploma in Physiotherapy, with particular responsibility for the Chronic Long-Term Conditions and Leadership modules.

Julie draws on her extensive clinical experience to champion an Enquiry-Based Learning approach, helping students to connect theory with real-world practice. A fluent Welsh speaker, she actively promotes the use and development of the Welsh language across the programme.

What will you study on this course?

The focus and content of these courses vary. Some examples of course content includes:  

Introductory course

• The fundamentals of practice education
• The profile of 58³Ô¹Ï Physiotherapy students.
• Organising and being prepared for practice education (including ethical and professional considerations).
• Navigating and understanding the CPAF paperwork used in practice education.
• Dealing with challenges in practice education.

Update course

The update course is more focused to specific needs.  In advance of these courses, we survey attendees and collate themes and preferred content. 

Additionally, revisions to introductory materials will be presented to attendees.  We will also examine the challenges faced in practice education and develop perspectives and solutions to deal with these.

We will also discuss and start to develop strategies to instigate positive changes in student education.

Regardless of course, our delivery will focus on empowering Practice Educators to be confident in dealing with real-world scenarios.

Further information

At the end of this course, learners will receive a Certificate of Completion, evidencing 7 hours of CPD.

There is no cost to this one day course, it is a free course.
