If you would like to study through the medium of Welsh and live in a truly bilingual community, 58�Թ� is the place for you.

Studying through Welsh can give you a better connection with your lecturers and fellow students as class sizes are usually smaller, allowing you more opportunities to contribute.
You can do all or part of your degree through the medium of Welsh in several academic Schools.

MONEY IN YOUR POCKET

Did you know that financial support is available to study through the medium of Welsh? When registering to follow Welsh-medium modules, you may be eligible to receive the following:

£1000

Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Main Scholarship - £1,000 per year for up to three years when you study 80 credits per year through the medium of Welsh.

£500

Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Incentive Scholarship - £500 per year for up to three years if you study 40 credits per year through the medium of Welsh.

£250

Welsh bursary - £250 per year if you study 40 credits per year through the medium of Welsh. This bursary can be received in addition to the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol scholarships.

OPPORTUNITIES TO USE WELSH AT BANGOR UNIVERSITY

If you are a Welsh speaker, you can receive support and assistance through the medium of Welsh through the Student Services Unit and the Students’ Union, as well as within your academic School.

If you would like to study through the medium of Welsh, a wide range of support is available to help you do so, as outlined in the video.

Welcome to 58�Թ�. There are plenty of opportunities and support for you to use the Welsh language whilst you're in the university. Here are some of what we offer.

Firstly, there are opportunities to study through the medium of Welsh in every academic school.

If the course offers opportunities through the medium of Welsh you can take advantage of them all or just some of them, it's up to you to decide which language you do your academic work in.

There is a high percentage of Welsh speakers which are students here which choose to study a part of their course through the medium of Welsh, so it's something that's completely natural to do.

As a Welsh speaker you're entitled to a Welsh personal tutor which can offer support and advice on any topic.

There are also support from Student Support Services through the medium of Welsh.

There's also support available to study through the medium of Welsh from Canolfan Bedwyr which offer language support and resources like Cysill and Ap Geiriaduron.

If you decide to study part of your course through the medium of Welsh you can receive financial support through the Coleg Cymraeg Incentive Scholarship and the University's bursary for studying through the medium of Welsh, because everyone likes a bit of extra money.

And finally, there is plenty of opportunity to socialise in Welsh through Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymraeg Bangor's societies and sport teams, there is something for everyone.

Undeb Bangor

If you would like to socialise or relax with other Welsh speakers you are in the right place. Undeb Bangor is 58�Թ�'s Students' Union. Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymru Bangor (UMCB) is a part of Undeb Bangor.

has a president who works to support Welsh-speaking students and promote the Welsh language and culture at 58�Թ�.

is the social wing of UMCB which organises social events throughout the year. We have Welsh choirs, a literary society, sports clubs and a student radio station - and if you would like to set up a new Welsh medium club, support is available to do so.

DEDICATED ACCOMMODATION FOR WELSH SPEAKERS

Why not make Neuadd John Morris-Jones (JMJ) a home away from home? JMJ is a hall of residence for Welsh speakers and learners, and it has en-suite rooms and communal spaces – put the kettle on to have a panad and a chat in a natural Welsh atmosphere.

Welsh Skills Support Canolfan Bedwyr

If you are a Welsh learner or if you would like to improve your spoken or written Welsh, there is nowhere better to practise. Take advantage of the specialist support available to Welsh students from Canolfan Bedwyr, the University’s Centre for Welsh Language Services, Research and Technology.

You can develop your academic writing and presentation skills and you will be supported to take the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Language Skills Certificate exam. Improving your language skills will help you with your academic studies and your future career.

Welsh Skills Support from Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol

The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s aim is to build a Welsh and bilingual education and training system which is open to everyone and to develop a bilingual workforce for Wales. 

There is a 'branch' of the Coleg in every university in Wales, and the Bangor branch is located in Canolfan Bedwyr.
